Coaching English and Business

Hi, I have been coaching English and Business in Madrid for the past 7 years, during which time I developed a simple method to improve English. particularly focusing on pronunciation. Students often asked me when I was going to put in into a book and I finally did this last year. (You Can Do It! El último emujón a tu inglés) In October 2012, Lo Que No Existe published 1000 copies with demand requiring a 2nd edition printing of 2000 copies in mid-December.

Although the book was written specifically for Spanish people wanting to improve their English, it has also enjoyed success in Italy. As I would now like to write a version specifically for Italians and the problems they experience learning English, my plan is to move to Italy where I would like to teach English and at the same time write the book based on my observations.

I am considering Verona. Can anyone give my any advice as to the potential there for a freelance English teacher/coach for business students? My clients in Madrid are business professionals who need to be confident in international meetings, interviews, presentations etc.

Thanks in advance. smiley

Nothing really specific to

Nothing really specific to add with regard to making a go of it or Verona in particular, but didn't want you to feel you were being ignored!

Linguistically I'd imagine similar issues; some time since I've taught Spanish students and I can't be bothered to look in my copy of Swan & Smith.smiley;  in Italian also being an inflected language.  They have problems with stress and the stress timing of English and hearing the weak syllables. False friends abound and you'll soon recognise in English translations what the original Italian word was. Adult students are generally a delight to work with, although some of them will come to you with ridiculous deadlines for achieving certain standards..

Does any of this sound familiar? smiley

Teaching in Verona

Hi, Thank you soooo much for your reply. Sorry, I obviously didn't make clear what I was asking. I do actually have a little experience teaching Italians here in Spain which  has resulted in recommendations and generated sales of my book in Italy. However, having never lived there, I have no idea whether or not Verona is a city with a high need for English teachers, particularly in the Business area. Does anyone know? Thank you again and greetings from sunny Madrid. smiley

The north of Italy is where

The north of Italy is where the majority of SMEs are . There is high demand from these for business English. I imagine if you're a marketing hotshot you'll be able to sell some (tailored) courses targeted at student with specific business needs. I could see you doing OK.

English for Professionals

Hi and thank you soooo much for this information. I am looking forward to seeing how both my personal coaching and my book https://twitter.com/_You_Can_Do_It might be of assistance in Verona. This site is really interesting and useful. Greetings again from sunny (though cold..brrr) Madrid.
