Hi All!
My wife is an EU citizen of both France and Italy. ( Commune Livorno )
Now I would like to start the process of becoming an Italian citizen as I will be moving there as of Jan. 1st, 2013. We have been married for 16 years and have resided in the US the whole time.
So,
With my time being extremely limited has anyone used a service that gets all of your paperwork together and translated? I don't mind paying for the service, but would like a recommendation if possible.
Or, if you think it is something I can handle on my own, I would like the vote of encouragement as well.
Thanks all!
Dale

I can definitely volunteer my services for translation. Have a look at my website in my signature.... And best of luck with the move!

Not to throw cold water out but have you talked to the consulate? Do you have an appointment?
Appointment? I was aware that I shouldn't have an appointment until all of my documentation is complete and in order. What is the point of going to the consulate empty handed. Besides, the consulate is in L.A. and I am in AZ.

You can wait to get the appointment until all the paperwork is ready. Or you can see about getting an appointment and hope it's before you leave.
No idea how far out LA is booking appointments but considering it's July. Then factoring in US and Italian holidays .
You'll need to manage your time very closely. Waiting until the last moment to book an appointment sounds risky to me.
Dale, if I were you I would definitely get an appointment now and gather docs in the interim.
Getting your documents together should be rather easy, depending on how straightforward your "line of succession" is.

Dale here is link that will give you an excellent time frame for LA and all that consulate does and does not do or require. LA is out about 5 months. You can go back and review earlier posts or post your own question about people applying in LA.
I just got my JS citiizenship 2 weeks ago and my Italian passport yesterday. I had a more complex application process because I needed court order changes, etc. My consulate was Miami. I waited 18 months and it is now out 24 months for an appointment. I would say a normal time frame to acquire documents for a no problem application is about 6-8 months if you work on it everyday to some extent, which you will, if only to familiarize yourself with the process.
After your appointment, you can wait anywhere from (normally) 4 months to years for your letter of award. Mostly however 4-12 months. In my case and also a friend in Miami it was 3 weeks for her and 8 days for me. The following week I got my passport. Check this link out. By the way there are several members here on this forum who post there also.

Did I miss something? I assumed he was applying for citizenship based on the fact he is married to an Italian citizen and has been for 16 years, not through JS.

No, you are absolutely correct. I thought there was a reason that I did not respond when I first saw it.....just too lazy to go back and check. When I saw LA and AZ I lost my mind....sorry...........

Sorry to confuse everyone. Not getting JS citizenship. Getting it through marriage. My wife is a citizen of Livorno. We live in the US.
Anyone have any clear indication of docs needed for this? My wife seems to think its no big deal, but I beg to differ.
Thanks.
Dale
Here's a link that talks about what documents you should gather:

Note that the penal certificate should be less than 6 months old when you submit it to the consulate.
