Expats in Trieste?

Hey all,

I've been living and working in Trieste for a few months now, and I'm loving it here. Europe is certainly a more laid back place to work, (previously to working here, I worked in Asia and Latin America, which are both hectic places to live and work).
Anyways, as much as I am enjoying living here, the one thing I am having issues with is making friends. It just seems that there is a hurdle whenever it comes to meeting new people here. Part of that might be the language issue, as I don't speak Italian fluently, (I am learning). And while I enjoy working with the people I work with, they are (for the most part), women in their mid 50's, and I'm in my early 30's, so there's not much in common there
So, I'm turning to this forum to ask if anyone here knows of any groups for expats in the Trieste area? Or maybe a bar or two where expats tend to hang out? Just someplace where I can get my foot in the door and hopefully start to start some friendships?

Thanks!

Cheers,

PB

Hi and welcome to Expats in Italy!

Trieste, Trieste... who lives in Trieste? I know somebody lives in Trieste! But who? :confusion-questionmarks: jhelm? No.. that's Belluno... Bill is Friuli... ummm..... ummm.... no, I don't know. Kellytree? Is she even on the board anymore? I'll have to think about this! smiley

Edit: No, Kellytree lives in Le Marche (those marche again, they are following me!). Maybe I was thinking of Kerry in Trento?

Where is Trieste anyway? smiley

oh. No. Wait. I think it was my friend's daughter who spent the summer in Trieste? :laughing-lmao: Yes, and dad with family stopped in Trieste on their way from Croatia to Venice. Oh. Sorry. Maybe I don't know any expats in Trieste after all? smiley

Anyway, you should check the member map http://expatsinitaly.com/node/43" target="_BLANK if you haven't already - and add yourself to it! So should everybody else, I think. Go ahead!

Kellytree posts once in awhile. But she's not in Trieste.

No disrespect intended, but those who make friends best I've noticed are those who don't worry about age and what separates. Cast a wide net.

No disrespect taken smiley

I didn't mean to imply that I was just limiting myself to looking to meet people of a certain age. All I was trying to say is that I don't have too much in common with the ladies I work with. I probably didn't articulate that well enough smiley

No worries. Making friends is a mysterious thing--I'm no expert either. We are new to our village and are seeing that every day.

Re: Expats in Trieste?

Hey PB
I'm here in Trieste for the past 2 months and making friends can be a slow process but don't worry it will happen. I have come across and english speaking group who meet up weekly. I have not taken part myself yet but I think I will. As part of the club they have a golf outing once a week which I like the sound of. Let me know if you want information on it and I will send it on.

Re: Expats in Trieste?

Hey there,

Sorry for the late reply. It's taken me some time to get back to these forums, for many different reasons.

I would certainly love some information on meetups and groups in this area. I'm still finding it difficult to meet people, so any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!
