Spring Cleaning

All the hand towels in the house have hung unused through the winter. Time to scrub winter out of the bathroom and wash all those towels fresh as spring. The big avenues around the walls are lined with horse chestnut trees that make shade for parking, bocce courts and pedestrians. This is their spring cleanup. It delays their leafing, but the shade will develop exactly where they want it. It looks brutal.

Yes, I always thought docking the trees so ferociously looked too harsh on the trees. I'm surprised this doesn't weaken them. I am not sure that all trees could handle this, especially in a colder climate.

On the other hand, I find there is something poetic about the towels on the clothesline, waving in the pale spring sun...
