August has brought lots of wonderful rain for the garden and now we have lovely warm weather with cool breezes.

Friday was Paolo's birthday so he had an afternoon party down in Monticchiello. Great fun.

Yesterday I drove up to Volterra and bought five alabaster sconces for the house. They should look great.

There's always something to do and someone to do it with.

Today is Ferragosto and we all went for pranzo at Silvana's family farm just down the road. Great day in a beautiful spot.

Life just gets better and better. I'm glad I left the states before the shrub bombs Iran and uses it as an excuse to cancel the next presidential election.

I love your blog Joanna. And today's post was lovely, until the politcal rant. Hard for me to enjoy your accounts of your new life in Italy when they are often peppered with disdain for your country of birth.

Too bad you feel you have to say that anonymously. I'm glad you enjoy the blog, but you mistake heartbreak and anguish over what's being done to the country of my birth for 'distain'. I love my native country like I would love my own child even if he/she became a crack-head and I won't keep my mouth shut in either case.

I agree, Joanna. I am looking for another place to live until I get my country back.
I grew up in a military family and growing up, Americans were welcomed and respected.
On my most recent trip out of the country I was advised by a local to tell people I was Canadian.
The trip before that I told people I was from Texas and that always brought smiles. Dubya's ruined that now, too.
Joanna, can you steer me in the right direction for finding work in Italy? I am a special education teacher. Thanks, Colleen

Colleen- Since I took early retirement to come here and have not the slightest interest in working here, I'm useless as an informant about finding work. You will find out much more on the expatsinitaly site which, if I'm not mistaken, has a whole forum topic devoted to the subject. Buona fortuna.
