I've just returned from Cape Cod. It's one of my favorite American places. It's among the ones I'll miss and have to come back to visit. It's ironic that planning to move abroad is such a powerful prompt to heightened feelings about places I've loved so much in this country: the Cape, New Orleans, the Florida Keys, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Charleston, the Outer Banks, the eastern shore of the Chesapeake, and... and...

But Gary writes that in Siena province it's  "hot, dry and wonderful at the moment; they are cutting the wheat and the hills look like they have been combed and a beautiful straw colour."

My photos are posted...see slowtrav blog link. Please let me know if I was at the right place. How peaceful! I only saw 2 little girls running around playing in the back of the house and heard 2 people talking in the shop to the left hand side of the Town Square. Is it the town square? I loved your neighbours flowers...and I love to take pictures of doors and windows. Your garden was lovely with oranges on that tree. Enjoy. J.

Joanna,
Found this note thru expats forum and I just had to let you know I just returned from NC & VA visiting family and spent a beautiful day with my mom on the Outer Banks after a few days on the Eastern Shore with with other family-that is my childhood homeland. And since I've been in Vt, the Cape has always been my favorite Fall vacation land. But now it is on to Umbria and interestingly for many of the reasons you seem to espouse from a political perspective. It is a sad time in the US right now so the decision to move to sunny Italia is just that much easier. Perhaps our paths will cross.
