"Rainbow Bridge"
I read this on the "Amici over the Ocean" forum. sent in by one of our members in Scotland.
I'm sure I don't need to explain 'why' it was posted do I? But I found it so moving and it bought back wonderful memeories of various pets and animals that I have 'loved and lost' over the years. It made me think about whether, as this piece says, I will ever be together with them again.
I've alway's sort of believed in the 'here-after', but confess that I'd never extended those thoughts to my pets. But why shouldn't I? I loved them too - and they always gave me almost unconditional love and loyalty in return - whatever I did to them. But hey - don't get me wrong, I was never cruel or unkind to them. I say gave me almost unconditional love ..... well it's a bit difficult when you're talking about the Shire-horse named 'Alice' who taught me to walk. Or a budgerigar called 'Blue' who came to me after someone had clipped his wings so he couldn't fly. Fell off the table everytime he tried - silly little bug*er - thought it was an airraft carrier. But he knew I was going to be there to catch him! Then of course a motley assortment of 'mutts' who I loved sooooo very much (every one of 'em), including the current edition of 'Italian "57" Varieties' pooch, and not to forget the one cat - Pineen. Oh and a bast*rd of a cockerel called Satan - not sure if I want to include him though - the hatred (?) between us was, without a doubt 100% mutual!
But back to this very touching piece, written I'm sure to help us all remember - with infinite love.....
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
