Now for the walls!

Well the walls are finally taking shape, all be it slowly. But at the end of the day they're not of wood frame or ordinary brick construction - but reinforced concrete thoughout.

Actually watching this process as I am, right from the very start is a revelation. I did see the care which was taken with the restructuring of my house when they had to prop it up once they had excavated down 1.5m so they could lay the 'vespaia' (air circulation layer). But I also saw my new house in Grimsby (UK) being built from 'scratch' too. Geez, what a difference in materials and care... with hindsight I don't know how that house stood up to the North Sea gales!!!

But I know where I would rather have a house built - and by whom.... I can't imagine the wood frame type or the ordinary brick houses (that these days have wood frame 'paper thin' walls) standing up to extreme weather conditions. In fact we see the problems and the devastaion caused by tornado's, hurricanes, floods etc. and yet I really do feel that if many of those houses were built in this manner then the devastation may have been (would be) far less!

Watch this space for more (not very) exciting update on the house at the bottom of the garden! Posted by Picasa
