House To Let!

Well 'his lordship's' new summer place arrived today! Even if I say so myself - in comparison to what he was used to, his new pad is quite a 'Des Res'...

Mind you he doesn't seem to think so. Because it looks like real wood he thought at first it must be related to the trees in the garden (you know what I mean....). Well a sharp 'clout round the ear' (metaphorically speaking of course) soon changed his mind on that score. He still it seems, prefers to lay in the sunshine - which today is glorious up here.

Nicoletta came today and we (she) got all the windows cleaned while I washed all the curtains and they were re-hung 'just damp' to save ironing. Now that is a job well done... She also got the terrace furniture (sounds 'posh' but it's simply green plastic chairs and a table) down from the mansarda so I've been sitting in the sun a bit this afternoon!

I cleaned off all the dead leaves from last years geraniums and thaey are now hanging from the balcony. A nice drink of water has made them raise their 'scrawny heads' following a long winter sleep upstairs under the roof. I bought two nice rose bushes yesterday too. One yellow/cream Tea Rose, and the othere a large rose with white and pink flowers. They were on 'special offer' at the local supermarket at just €2.80 each. I think I'll put them in the narrow (18") border on top of the dry stone wall under the driveway. They should look nice there and I'll be able to see them from the downstairs windows. Can't see that border from the terrace as the 'false roof' hides it from view.
I think one of the locals is coming up tomorrow to collect all the branches from the tree pruning. He uses wood for his heating and cooking and is pleased to have mine 'free'. I'd probably have 'paid him' to take it away, but Nicoletta said - "Stai scherzando?" ("Are you joking"). She - it seems - told him I was really kind, and was giving it to him.... I'll say no more!
