SUNFLOWERS JULY 2008

We've been out several times to take sunflower photos, as if I needed more! As usual I took pictures of sunflowers from the front

On OUR FLICKR PAGE there are two folders with sunflower pictures and one folder with a few other flowers that were growing amonst the sunflowers.

ROOM WITH A VIEW

A few years ago the field we can see from our bedroom window was filled with sunflowers, and now, once again, the sunflowers have returned! Crops are rotated so that we rarely see sunflowers in the same spot each year, and this year many farmers have chosen to plant wheat, given it's high demand. When I looked out the window and saw yellow here and there, I knew this would be our year!

My plan was to get up early this morning and drive over to the field to take pictures, but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate. We woke up this morning to cloudy skies and strong winds. I'm not sure if we'll see any rain, but without the blue sky as a background, I won't be taking sunglower photos today. I will try to post some of the sunflower phots we took earlier in the week just as soon as I can.

IT'S SUNFLOWER TIME AGAIN!!

Yes, it's that time of year, my very favorite time in Italy! Fields of sunflowers are opening all over the place, and it's so much fun to see the fields change from solid green to green sprinkled with specks of yellow, then eventually fields of blinding yellow. Yes, I probably have more than enough sunflower photos, but I'll still be out there, clicking away. Stay tuned......

MORE SUNFLOWERS

This morning we set out for a field just outside of San Venanzo. There are in fact three sunflower fields, all along the road leading from Rotecastello to Marsciano. I needed to get up close and personal with the fields to see if they were in full bloom...I can't really see the entire fields from the road, so an in-person check was the only way.

Once we reached the first field it was obvious that it wasn't quite ready....perhaps 70% of the flowers were open. The good news was that I could see another field off in the distance, but I wasn't sure I knew how to get there. Art felt confident that he knew the right road to take, and he was correct.









As we drove up the road there were even more sunflowers than we had imagined. From the top we could now see that the sunflowers simply cascaded down both sides of the hill, and the waves of yellow just went on and on! It didn't take me long to fill up the memory card of my camera.

Note that although the newest sunflower pictures now show up on the main page, they are also contained within the SUNFLOWER FOLDER, and once I add more pictures, the sunflower pictures won't be seen on the main page but will still be available in the folder.
