CLOSER AND CLOSER
For the past few days, due to the NRA convention, a visit by John McCain to that same convention, and visits by Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton (and Bill), the Louisville Airport has been a very busy place, and getting out of there has proved difficult.
This morning we finally bit the bullet and decided to try to the early-bird special, the 6 a.m. flight. When we last checked, that flight had a few open seats, while the later flights were all oversold. It wasn't my first choice, being so NOT a morning person, but somehow we managed to get on the flight to Philly, even though by the time we checked in at 5:30 a.m. it too was oversold.
Now we're here in Philly, in the American Airlines lounge, whiling away our 8+ hour wait by reading free magazines, sitting in comfortable chairs, drinking coffee and diet Coke...oh, and using the computer. I was able to email my family and friends to let them know that at least we're a step closer to home, and to alert the person who has our car that we might....might...be arriving home in Italy tomorrow morning.
I can't promise what kind of shape I'll be in after 24+ hours of flying and waiting, but hopefully the promise of my own bed will be a strong motivation to stay awake on the train and not miss my stop! Or we could be spending the night here in Philly..........
