ANCIENT ETRUSCAN INSCRIPTIONS IN ROTECASTELLO?

Unfortunately, no. I took these pictures and sent them to our friend Bill Thayer who just loves this sort of thing. He has a great website, which leans heavily towards Umbria (which explains why we like Bill so much). Anyway, he said this is unfortunatey just a stone used to date the house. The date is 1760, and apparently it's not even meant to be Etruscan! Somewhere along the way the idea that it WAS Etruscan must have caught on, and the misinformation has continued....and maybe the locals like it that way, who knows? I wasn't too surprised...the block just didn't look that old or weathered.
